The world is getting better. Not just a little bit, but exponentially better. You don’t have to believe me, but you had better believe the evidence.
Introducing Dr. Peter Diamandis
Dr. Peter Diamandis is one of my all-time favourite authors, philanthropists and visionary. Diamandis is the New York Times Bestselling author of Abundance – The Future Is Better Than You Think and BOLD – How to go Big, Create Wealth & Impact the World.
If there was one book that I was to recommend all of my friends and family to read, this would be it. It’s jammed packed full of amazing new technologies that are already revolutionising the world for the better. It’s insane. You can buy his book Abundance from his website (definitely do it, you won’t regret it!).
His latest blog post shares some insights to why the future isn’t as bleak as we think it is. Here’s a few examples.
Absolute Poverty Is Declining
Absolute poverty is living on less than $1.25 a day. In the past 30 years it’s declined drastically that many are predicting it will be extinguished globally in the next 20 years.
Child Labour Is Disappearing
Shockingly, as of 2012 there was still 168 million children in the global labour force; 50% of them were doing highly hazardous work. That’s absolutely unacceptable. Any country, company or human being that thinks children should be working in highly hazardous jobs instead of gaining an education, literacy and numeracy is an ethical monster. Luckily, mainly thanks to technology (sadly, not thanks to political transformation) robotic manufacturing is replacing many of the children in manufacturing.
Food Has Become More Affordable & More Accessible
This fact is obvious to the developed world; this is visible in a huge rise in obesity, diabetes and other illnesses. This is focused on food costs in the United States, so really it’s not showing the costs in the places that truly need cheap food – however, the point is clear. We’re getting cheaper food.
Child Mortality Has Halved In The Last 25 Years Alone
Let’s not even look at the last 100 years; just in the most recent quarter of a century, child mortality rates have reduced by 50%. That’s since 1990! This is the most incredible statistic yet, in my opinion.
The World Is Getting Better
Wherever you look, there is more evidence that the future is looking better than ever. You best believe it, because although you might feel like the future is bleak (trust me, I’m not optimistic about the future with Donald Drumpf and the Brexit Bigots) it is actually going to be freakin’ amazing. Don’t trust me, trust the evidence.
